When I started making baskets almost 15 years ago on a weekend course, I had no idea that it would become such a large part of my life and take up such a lot of space. I soon grew out of making small baskets in the conservatory and moved into The Workshop which has become a work and display space for the baskets, storage for willow and a venue for occasional courses taught by visiting tutors and myself. An outside barn houses much of the willow which, once dried, can last for several years before being re-soaked for basketmaking.
Most of my baskets are traditional, functional and made from willow. I grow several varieties of willow here at Seafield and buy some brown willow from Barfad Willow, Ardfern and Buff and White willow from Somerset. I attended courses taught by highly skilled basketmakers from Britain and Ireland and so I work in a variety of different styles.
Baskets are available for sale and range in price from £5 - £20 for a small or medium fruit basket, £32 - £48 for a medium or large round, oval or square shopper and up to £65 for a large log basket. Many other baskets are available and all are made by myself, here at Seafield.
I don't weave full time but you are welcome to come and have a look when I am in the Workshop.
